The Academy believe that being a professional musician is more than just technical ability. ACM's programmes have been specifically designed to offer students an intensive training that covers all aspects of technical and musical development but also gives opprtunity to develop personal skills essential to survival in the ultra competitive enviroment of the music industry.

ACM extras include:
Private and open counselling

During the course students are able to book time with specific instructors on an individual basis to discuss anything from technique development to career guidance and confidence building.

In addition to this ACM full timers are able to seek advice from visiting artists in our 'Open Counselling' sessions which are excellent for extra tips on songwriting, improvisation and the music industry in general.

Music business

All of ACM's programmes give students a unique insight into how the music industry functions covering areas such as indie and major deals, publishing, marketing, national press, management, touring, and merchandise. In addition to this students also cover many aspects of genreal business including publicity and advertising, taxation, project management, time management, finance and company structure and are given the opportunity to develop a personal career plan based on individual objectives.

Songwriting and composition

Songwriting is one of the most important elements in building a successful career in music. ACM students work closely with instructors and consultants on the composition and analysis of hit records. ACM's faculty have worked on and produced three number one albums and over thirty top 40 hits, so are very experienced in understanding the fundamental characters associated with making successful reclords.

ACM is also in a position to pass appropriate material onto industry contacts, including Sony Publishing, Mushroom records, Steve Harris (Producer: Bluetones, Longpigs, Kula Shaker), Hit and Run management/publishing (Space, kula Shaker), Trinifold management (Led Zepplin, the Who), V2 records (Virgin).

Recording and music production

Instrumentalists and music production students studying at ACM have plennty of opportunity to interact recording master quality demos in there digital recording studio 'The ACM Cutting Room', using faculty experience to assist in the production process. In addition to this students are able to get to grips with the latest scoring and recording software in ACM's music production suite.

Guildford college and the Academy

All full time programmes are run in collaboration with Guildford College of Further and Higher education, giving ACm students access to some of the best technical resources currently available. Within easy walking distance of the ACademy, Guildford college also offers students social and recreational facilities from their student bar and food halls to the fully equipped gym.
